So who's going to be the new Joker?
=/
Johnny Depp? To be honest, I would think he could make a good Joker replacement. Of course after seeing Ledger's performance, it's going to suck not having him do it again.

No one can replace Heath Ledger as the joker (but your Jonny Depp idea could possibly be an OK choice in an actor, after watching Sweeney Todd). I doubt Joker will come back...

Why does there have to be a Joker in the third batman movie? I'd rather them just leave the character be, Heath was the joker of this generation of batman movies. Just like Jack Nicholson was of the last generation and that one guy in the 60's/70's before him (can't recall his name, and not gunna look it up just for a post). Leave the character be, let it have it's solid stake no need to replace him or even think of a coy way to have a disappearance of the Joker. Third Batman, different villains- Mr.Freeze, Penguin, Ivy, Bane there's many to pick from. Heath's portrayal of the Joker was a form of acting genius that is a rare occurrence. Hardly these days do we see an actor or actress so able to step so far out of their own natural character to perform a role in a unique and personalized way. Simply getting another A list actor to fill the boots will not suffice, even if it were Johnny Depp. If you want your love for evil comical psychopaths satisfied, perhaps a stellar female actress could try out for Harley Quinn. Naturally I would recommend Angelina Jolie for the role, simply because her lips fit the costume design already. But seriously she wouldn't be able to make lightning strike twice, it'd have to be someone unexpected.

Harley Quinn? Doesn't she wear a full-body, skin-tight costume?

After watching TDK for the 2nd time, I think it can be almost definitively said that the Joker isn't going to be in any of the sequels. There's really no reason to after that movie.
What they need though, is to bring Philip Seymour Hoffman back as the Penguin. Or get some new villains into the mix, like Clayface.
The real question should be "Who is going to play Robin". Because he has to make a reappearance.

If Robin is reintroduced the franchise will die. Christian Bale (I hope you know that's who plays Batman/Bruce Wayne) already claimed officially that if there will be a Robin, he's out. And Director Christopher Nolan already said there won't be a Robin in his Batman franchise ever. So to hell with that, it would detract so much from the franchise enough to make a man cry.
And after reading some of the previous points, you are right, I think Heath's joker should be left as it is.
I can only hope the next villain(s) are dark as well. When I think of thePenguin or Catwoman or the Riddler, I start having nightmares about the older cartoony movies. They had better make the next one just as dark.
Not to mention it would be nice to pick some unsuspecting actors with talent. Most people didn't expect Heath to pull this one off as damn good as he did, same said for Christian Bale when Batman Begins came out.

Bale is just an attention slut, greedy for limelight. No surprise there.

but i wouldnt put it past them to try Batman Vs Predator ....or Batman Vs Judge Dread....im only half joking tbh.
Depp is a good candidate for the joker imo.

I wouldn't mind if they decided to introduce Dick Grayson though(as well as Barb Gordon). They can lay the groundwork for them without rushing them into their future sidekick roles as the other Batman movies have done.
And Nightwing deserves his own movie, as long as it is helmed by the same people that restarted Batman. Nothing cheesy like the originals please.

Well, he's like, the only Welsh actor in Hollywood, what do you expect? Although it's hard not to like him after his performance in 3:10 to Yuma. Yet again, it's not hard to be great when you're alongside the likes of Russell Crowe.
All in all, I really hope that they DO NOT bring the Joker back, as there is really no good reason to. There's plenty of other great Batman villains from the comics. Bringing back Poison Ivy wouldn't be bad, and it would be awesome to see Bane. Or the alligator guy, I can't remember his name, I just call him Batman's Lizard since I think of The Lizard from Spider-man whenever I see him.
I just wish they would have gone a little further with Two-Face. Aaron Eckhart is kind of getting the shaft because he did just as good, if not a better job than Heath Ledger.
Two-Face in TDK suffered from the Venom-syndrome from Spider-man. Great villain, well put together, but only about 20 minutes of screen time.

Personally, after seeing Heath's portrayal of the Joker, there is no-one who could come close to replacing him. I say leave it be and move on to another villain. As for the idea of Mr.Freeze, I could see Patrick Stewart playing him but one that is more in-line with the comics or the Animated Series. He would of course have a darker tone to him both in character design and personality. Though I admit, Arnold's Mr. Freeze was terrible, I also blame the writers and the director for that fiasco of a movie. Still sends shivers of dread down my spine...

Killer Croc. He was in Gotham Knight so he may sure up again, but unfortunately only as a minor villain.
Clayface and Bane would be good for the next film. Especially if Bane does break Batman, keeps up the darker edge we've been seeing.

Actually Christian Bale is not an attention seeking person, he's been un-heard of for so long after his very good and successful performance as the bratty little kid in Empire of the Sun in 1987.
